YOU are our mission!
We are a nonprofit organization committed to helping the victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. We are here to. . .
- Provide emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, and support services to victims and children who are survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Create public awareness about the devastating consequences of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Provide batterer intervention and prevention services.
The Crisis Center is open around-the-clock for victims and their children who need help. Through counseling, we assist with…
- Understanding the variety of lifestyle options to meet different needs.
- Obtaining legal and medical assistance.
- Assistance in locating housing and employment.
- Advocacy and support.
- Engaging children in activities to improve their self-esteem and educational development.
Brief History
The Crisis Center began in 1976 when a small group of concerned volunteers established a 24-hour crisis line to assist victims of sexual assault. In 1982, our services expanded to include victims of domestic violence.
In 2004, the Crisis Center relocated to a new and larger building, a place of hope, to better serve the needs of our clients. Mr. Chester J. Brown of Sherman generously made a $250,000 donation in the form of a challenge grant to raise private and foundation funds for the new facility. In grateful appreciation for Mr. Brown's gift and in keeping with his wishes, the Board of Directors named the building in memory of his late wife, Ella Mae Brown.
Assistance is provided at no charge, thanks to the generosity of a loving community committed to offering hope and help where it is needed most.
Location
We are located at 4200 N. Travis Street in Sherman, TX, just north of Hwy. 82. Our building is kept locked, with extensive security measures to ensure the safety of residents, volunteers and staff.
